Verkade is refreshing its chocolate range with a new, modern break shape designed to enhance the tasting experience. Internal tests and product research show that the shape of a chocolate bar can significantly influence how people perceive its flavor. While the recipe remains unchanged, the triangular shape has been carefully developed to improve mouthfeel and ease of use.

In a market challenged by rising costs and intense competition, Verkade is choosing innovation – not for the sake of change, but to future-proof the brand and remain relevant to consumers without compromising on taste or quality.

Triangular shape for enhanced flavour experience

The newly designed break shape focuses on convenience and mouthfeel. Thanks to the curved triangle, slanted edges, and compact pieces, the chocolate melts differently in the mouth, offering a smoother bite and a richer flavor experience.

“We conducted extensive research to find the ideal shape to improve the taste experience—without altering the elements people know and love. What’s striking is that people rate the chocolate higher in its new shape, even though the recipe is exactly the same.”

      – Dennis Teeken, General Manager of Koninklijke Verkade.

The chocolate still follows the trusted recipe and uses ingredients that deliver the signature Verkade taste. However, the packaging has been updated to match today’s look and feel.

      Accessible and reliable

For many, chocolate is a simple daily indulgence. Verkade believes this moment should remain accessible to a broad group of consumers. In a shifting market, the brand is making thoughtful updates that add value without sacrificing quality.

“We remain a brand that’s close to home. With this step, we aim to strengthen our position on supermarket shelves by showing that classic brands can evolve without losing their essence.”

      – Dennis Teeken, General Manager of Koninklijke Verkade.

A constant presence in store shelves

Verkade has been a familiar name in Dutch chocolate aisles for generations. As a local brand with a rich history and a distinctive, full-bodied taste, Verkade stands for consistency and quality. For many consumers, these bars are a staple. With its renewed appearance, the brand demonstrates that classic and contemporary can go hand in hand. The updated line reinforces the brand identity that many Dutch people already know and love: familiar chocolate, grown with the times.
