Valmet is to supply the first Valmet IQ Quality Management System for a barrier coating line to Santa Maria paper mill in Guarapuava, Paraná state, Brazil.
The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the fourth quarter 2024. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The delivery is scheduled for the second quarter 2025.
The mill produces print, write, and specialty papers for various industries using two existing paper machines equipped with Valmet IQ Quality Control Systems (QCS). The new investment includes a tailored solution for the barrier coating line, featuring the IQ Converting Scanner, IQ Spectrum Measurement for precise barrier coat weight measurement, and an IQ Moisturizer with a closed-loop moisture and curl control system. It will enable the mill to improve productivity and enhance the quality of end products.

Delivery’s technical information
The delivery will include advanced technology for converting and paper quality optimization. It will feature a Valmet IQ Converting Scanner with Reflection Spectrum Measurement and a Valmet IQ Moisturizer designed for the converting market. The system will support Santa Maria in eliminating curling and improving paper coating while maximizing mill performance.
