Portugal based Dairy brand Terra Alegre, a dairy factory of the Jerónimo Martins Group has strengthened its ties with aseptic carton supplier SIG by introducing tethered SIG MaxxCap Linked on SIG’s carton packs.
Terra Alegre has been offering whole milk, semi-skimmed milk and skimmed milk packaged in SIG SlimlineBloc carton packs.
The tethered cap of SIG MaxxCap Linked is adjustable at the desired position, with users easily able to pour from the pack without any cap interference.
The cap can then be closed by slightly lifting it and then locking it through standard usage.
Julio García de Cuerva, Head of Sales Iberia, SIG Combibloc stated – “We’ve worked closely with Terra Alegre to ensure the company stays well ahead of European regulatory requirements. As such, Terra Alegre can reassure its consumers that they are already contributing to minimizing plastic waste leaking into the environment and oceans.”
This is another step forward on Terra Alegre’s sustainability roadmap as, together with SIG, the company leads the way in adding key sustainable solutions to its portfolio. As consumer environmental awareness continues to grow, sustainable packaging is an important influencer in final product choices and buying decision making.
This move comes ahead of the Single-Use Plastics Directive issued by the European Union that requires every EU member states’ single-use beverage containers to feature caps by mid-2024.
Terra Alegre’s Managing Director Pedro Freire stated – “We are committed to providing our clients, not only with the highest quality product, but also the most convenient and sustainable packaging solutions.
“By adding tethered caps to SIG’s carton packs, we are the first to offer this tethered closure well ahead of the EU’s directive, providing our clients an even more eco-friendly package.”
Earlier this year, SIG’s domeTwist closure tethered cap was adopted by Polish retailer Maspex Wadowice for use in its Tymbark Vega juice ranges.
