Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a coin of Rs 75 denomination to celebrate and mark the 75th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
Attending the occasion via a web seminar, the PM also launched 17 new biofortified crop varieties and recapitulated the government’s allegiance towards procurement of agri crops at minimum support price (MSP).
The initiative came at a time when several farmers have denied ending of their ongoing struggle against the controversial agricultural laws, regardless of having serious discussions with the Centre recently.
“MSP and government procurement are a vital part of the food security of our country. It is significant that it proceeds to function with enhanced and improved amenities and adopts a scientific approach. We are dedicated towards this,” PM declared.
He also said that the Centre was also advocating and encouraging millets and high nutrition crops to cope up with the cases of malnutrition in the nation.
Apart from this, PM also stated that attempts are being made to ameliorate Mandi infrastructure such that the MSP buying continues in a scientific manner.
He further informed that the government in the last six years has been making investments in making the infrastructure facilities at Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs) robust.
