MaGie Creations, a food-tech company, introduces the first grain emulsifier in a high-demand trend of clean label innovation that is waste-reducing, cost efficient and utilizes upcycled ingredients that would otherwise go to waste.
By repurposing a key by-product of the beer industry, MaGie Creations claims the company is tackling directly some of the largest themes in the global F&B industry, namely how to feed a growing population in a more sustainable manner, how to move beyond ultra-processed foods, and how to create value out of ignored waste streams.
Up to 85 percent of brewing by-products are millions of tons of fiber- and protein-rich biomass, which, unless used as animal feed, is usually discarded. Brewer’s grain is one of these products.
MaGie Creations has invented a method of converting this underused material into a proprietary food-grade emulsifier, PowerBond.
“This innovation is more than just a new ingredient; it’s a glimpse of the future of food. We’re showing how the food system can be both circular and clean without compromising on functionality or flavor.”
– Madeleine Gielens, founder of MaGie Creations.

The new solution provided by the company gives food manufacturers a substitute for artificial and highly processed emulsifiers. It follows increasing consumer preference for natural ingredients and sustainable sourcing, and it arrives as the global consumer is reading labels as never before.
PowerBond is effective in a variety of food applications, such as baked goods, meat and meat substitutes. It is price competitive and can serve as a replacement for a number of current additives.
“The future of food isn’t just about what we eat; it’s about how we make it. We need comprehensive, systemic solutions that begin with reimagining food production.”
“By thoroughly studying brewer’s grain, we uncovered the inherent functional properties embedded within this valuable biomass, enabling us to create PowerBond, an emulsifier that requires minimal processing of the raw material only while avoiding the creation of new residue streams.”
– Ellen van der Starre, product development lead at MaGie.
MaGie Creations is built by a team of creative innovators. Unconventionally adopts a no-compromise approach to better food. To look for potential where others don’t. Which results in ingredients that offer maximum functionality. That are derived from otherwise undervalued resources. With minimal processing. Rapidly approaching 100% fossil-free. That makes its ingredients simply better.
