Lineage Foundation for Good has partnered with DC Central Kitchen to combat food insecurity at the 20th annual Capital Food Fight. Launched in late 2021, the Lineage Foundation for Good is a public charity organization with a mission to reduce food waste and combat food insecurity. This mission is achieved by fostering a dynamic, real-time, global connection between food producers and the individuals, families, and communities most in need.
In just three years, the Foundation has facilitated the donation of nearly 30 million pounds of food and provided over $6.5 million in funding to charitable partners worldwide. The organization remains committed to expanding its impact and addressing global food challenges.
Last week, the Foundation supported DC Central Kitchen, a renowned nonprofit and social enterprise dedicated to fighting hunger and poverty through job training and creation. As the presenting sponsor for DC Central Kitchen’s signature fundraiser, *Capital Food Fight*, the Foundation contributed to a night that blends culinary excellence with community impact.
DC’s Baddest Night of Doing Good
Known as “DC’s Baddest Night of Doing Good,” *Capital Food Fight* showcases celebrity chefs competing to create exceptional dishes using secret ingredients, all in front of a live audience. Proceeds from the event benefit DC Central Kitchen’s award-winning job training and nutrition programs in Washington, DC. Since 2004, the event has raised over $12 million to support these initiatives.
This year’s competition featured chefs Katarina Petonito of Eastern Point Collective, Sarah Ravitz of Shilling Canning Company, Jovana Urriola of Colada Shop, and Yuan Tang of Ellie Bird/Rooster & Owl. Hosted by prominent figures in the culinary world, the event raised an impressive $900,000, with contributions from sponsors, attendees, and over 80 participating restaurants.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of *Capital Food Fight* highlighted DC Central Kitchen’s innovative approach to addressing hunger. Every dollar raised supports efforts to address the root causes of food insecurity by offering culinary training and job opportunities to underserved individuals. This model aligns with the Foundation’s mission to tackle the broader social determinants of health and create long-term community impact.
A Dynamic Approach to Fighting Hunger
Food is central to sustaining the world, empowering communities, and inspiring innovation. The Lineage Foundation for Good was established to extend this vital resource further, recognizing the global and local significance of food waste and insecurity, and Lineage and DC Kitchen partnership underscores that. Support from Lineage’s leadership, including Megan Hendricksen, the global vice president for marketing and communications, reinforces the Foundation’s commitment. Her role on the DC Central Kitchen Board of Directors exemplifies this shared dedication to creating meaningful change.
DC Central Kitchen’s barrier-free model addresses the interconnected challenges of food access, economic stability, and community support. These holistic efforts align with the Foundation’s vision to address the deeper symptoms of hunger and poverty through social enterprise. The Foundation’s innovative, collaborative efforts continue to make a lasting impact on communities worldwide. With food as an essential resource for everyone, everywhere, the goal is clear: to eliminate food waste and hunger in all its forms.
