ABOUT THE ROLE:
Our Food Safety and Hygiene Officer will take overall responsibility for driving GMP standards through hygiene and fabrication improvements. Challenging and mentoring all departments to improve GMP standards across the facility to ensure compliance to the Food/Feed Hygiene Regulations, GFSI, Customer requirements and McCain standards. - Be responsible for managing all plant hygiene activities to ensure they are completed on time and to the required standard. Develop and validate hygiene procedures for all areas of the plant and external areas.
- Manage the contract with the chemical provider and ensure the chemical approval system maintained.
- Implement and action GMP visual standards across the site in line with the principles of GMP to meet all customer, GFSI standards as required.
- Coach the plant workforce and contractors to industry-leading performance in hygiene and ensure all regional/global initiatives are implemented and are effective. Ensure compliance is maintained to training SOP sign offs.
- Conduct internal GMP audits to identify / evaluate all potential non-compliance issues, trend non-conformances to establish areas of focus and completed root cause analysis to prevent reoccurrence.
- Assist the Technical Department with developing GMP related training programs with responsibility for scheduling and delivering training as required.
- Work with the engineering team to facilitate improvements to existing and new equipment to ensure food safety is maintained and effective hygiene can take place.
- Manage the Pest control contract and ensure actions are closed out in a timely manner.
- Take an active lead in preparing for visits/audits and present area of responsibility to all auditors/customer.
- Develop and maintain a matrix identifying prioritises for GMP building fabric spend and poor GMP examples of equipment (Welds).
- Manage the hygiene cleaning equipment and chemical budget.
- Manage the site HACCP team and ensure HACCP plan is maintained.
- Take ownership for investigating food safety/foreign material complaints and internal finds back to root cause.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR…
We’re looking for someone with experience in a similar role as a Food Hygiene Officer, or people with similar skills looking to develop (for example a QA Manager). - Basic food safety qualifications – HACCP/Food Safety
- Knowledge and experience of dealing with external audits and standards – BRC/AIB audit.

- Willingness to challenge existing working practices to continually drive improvement in Quality & Food Safety
