PepsiCo Data Governance Program Overview:
PepsiCo is establishing a Data Governance program that will be the custodian of the processes, policies, rules and standards by which the Company will define its most critical data.
Enabling this program will:
- Define ownership and accountability of our critical data assets to ensure they are effectively managed and maintain integrity throughout
PepsiCo’s systems
- Leverage data as a strategic enterprise asset enabling data-based decision analytics
- Improve productivity and efficiency of daily business operations
Position Overview:
The Data Governance Manager role is responsible for working with PepsiCo sectors and functions to define Enterprise Data Governance policies, rules, and standards to reduce risks related to collecting, storing, and using data. The role also requires understanding and experience with data governance implementation using any of the market leading tools. This role requires deep knowledge of governance policies, master data requirements, business understanding of data and usage in various programs throughout PepsiCo. The Governance manager will be deployed to work with various programs and sectors within PepsiCo to ensure data related requirements are in adherence to the global data governance policies set by the Enterprise Data Governance Council. This role will support various business sector as they prepare to roll out the Data Governance platform (Data Quality, Data Catalog, Metadata management) and map their current data to established global standards.
Data Governance Manager will work closely with Data Domain Stewards and sector specific governance teams (as applicable) to ensure standards are being upheld and should new data requirements be needed, that the domain stewards are engaged as needed.
Responsibilities
Primary Accountabilities:
- Create governance policies, procedures and rules to reduce PepsiCo risk as it relates to collecting, storing, and using internal & external data
- Research and navigate important legal and policy compliance issues with stakeholders, providing technical, project management support and policy advice at senior government and management levels for high-level projects and policies.
- Ensure standards are applied by all the stakeholders. Prevent or resolve data definition conflicts by facilitating discussions across appropriate business units.
- Identify risks and controls related to enterprise data security changes
- Work with Data Ecosystem team to create policies and standards for external data storage and usage and ensure adherence
- Provide recommendations and supporting documentation for new or proposed data standards, business rules and policy (in conjunction with the Governance Council as appropriate).
- Source Data Governance functional requirements from Local and Global programs being implemented in a specific sector and relay them to the global data governance team for implementation planning.
- Coordinate across the organization (with fellow Enterprise Data Stewards and the EDG leader; strategic initiatives, Digital Use Cases and the federated data network) in order to maintain consistency of PepsiCo’s critical enterprise, digital, operational and analytical data.
- Accountable for ensuring that data-centric activities are aligned with the EDG program and leverage applicable data standards, governance processes, and overall best practices.
Enterprise Data Governance Operations and Advisory:
- Ensures alignment of the data governance processes and standards with applicable enterprise, business segment, and local data support models.
- Maintains the single set of enterprise-level data standards & repository of key elements pertaining to their in-scope data domain (e.g external data) and promoting their use throughout the PepsiCo organization.
- Owns one or multiple domain perspectives in defining and continually evolving the roadmap for enterprise data governance based upon strategic business objectives, existing capabilities/programs, cultural considerations and a general understanding of emerging technologies and governance models/techniques.
- Establishes and monitors key data management and governance metrics to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the critical data within their domain(s).
- Advise on various projects and initiatives to ensure that any data related changes and dependencies are identified, communicated and managed to ensure adherence with the Enterprise Data Governance established standards.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working in Data Governance or Data Security and Compliance within a global organization (CPG or Financial institution)
- 5+ years of experience working with data, data maintenance, associated elements/processes, involved systems and interdependent data
- Strong data management background who understands data collection, storage, usage, how to create policies and use technology to automate compliance risks.
- Understanding of legal risk and remediation efforts in data compliance
- Functional Experience with data governance implementation using Informatica, Collibra, Erwin, IBM IGC or similar leading metadata management and data quality management tools is required.
- Ability to partner with the legal, business and technical subject matter experts to ensure standardization of operational information and execution of enterprise-wide data governance policies and procedures are defined and implemented.
