Huhtamaki India has installed rooftop solar panels in four of its plants as part of its 2030 sustainability ambition, which entails shifting to renewable electricity, becoming carbon neutral in its operations and designing products that are 100% recyclable, compostable or reusable.
Installation of the panels has been completed at Huhtamaki’s plants in Guwahati, Daman, Silvassa and Taloja. The 750KWp, polycrystalline, Tier-I, BIS Certified rooftop solar panels will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 750 MT per annum, equivalent to planting nearly 50,000 trees. All installations are equipped with high-end safety systems and online performance monitoring.
Commenting on the project Mr. Sudip Mall, Managing Director, Huhtamaki India, said, “Through our sustainable packaging solutions, we at Huhtamaki believe in protecting food, people and the planet. Making the shift to renewable electricity is a priority for our 2030 strategy. By installing solar panels we are making a real impact to reduce our carbon footprint across our manufacturing plants in India.”
