Hilton Foods Canada made an announcement that it is going to invest 192 million dollars to establish its first food processing and distribution plant in Brantford, where it is reported to have created 150 new jobs. In partnership, the Ontario government is funding the expansion of Hilton Foods with an amount of 1.5 million through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund to diversify and expand the food manufacturing industry in the province.
“Hilton Foods’ decision to establish its first North American facility in Ontario is a testament to the robust business environment our government has worked to create by lowering the cost of doing business, cutting red tape and creating new trade opportunities for Ontario businesses. Our government will continue to make strategic investments to protect Ontario’s economy, create good-paying jobs, and build a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy.”
– Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.
Hilton Food Canada Inc. is setting up a new 230,000-square-foot facility comprising a food processing and warehouse distribution building to process protein products (beef, pork, lamb, and seafood) destined for distribution centers as far as Mississauga, Cornwall, and Moncton. This investment is the initial food manufacturing operation by the company in North America.
“Today is an exciting milestone and the official start of construction on our very first Hilton Foods facility in Canada. This is the beginning of a long-term commitment to Ontario’s food supply chain, to the people of this region, and to the future of high-quality Canadian food products, right here in Brantford, Ontario. We’re proud to be bringing innovation, quality, and efficiency to the food supply chain, and most importantly, providing Canadian families with products they can trust and enjoy every day.”
– Matt Lee, Regional CEO of Hilton Foods.
The Ontario government launched the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund in 2019 as a stream under the Regional Development Program (RDP), offering customized financial support and advisory services to help businesses and municipalities invest in equipment, innovation, workforce development, and market expansion in eastern and southwestern Ontario.
“This is a tremendous vote of confidence in Ontario’s resilient economy and world-class workforce, as Hilton Food Group chooses Ontario for their first North American food processing plant. Combined with other recent private sector expansions and Brantford’s booming agri-food sector, this $192 million investment strengthens our province’s position as a global agri-food manufacturing leader, creating 150 good-paying jobs and strengthening regional prosperity.”
– Trevor Jones, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness.
