Eurofins Analytical Services India, a member of Eurofins’ Food and Feed Services division, has launched a mobile residue monitoring laboratory to provide farmers and exporters with faster and more accurate testing services close to farms and supply markets.

With changes in laws related to agriculture, farmers and buyers / exporters are expected to reach national markets and therefore have to make quick purchasing decisions. An important quality criterion for the purchase of export-related raw materials is pesticide residues and toxins. Currently, buyers / exporters are heavily using the services of nationally renowned laboratories to get results for this business. In the case of lower MRLs or strict regulations in the destination country, such as the EU, the samples are also sent to renowned international laboratories such as Eurofins for analysis

With ongoing changes in the regulatory and business landscapes, the buyer who takes the farmer’s transaction time and decides to buy the product must significantly reduce it so that farmers have more options to sell their products to different buyers depending on the quality of the product. One of the critical factors that can reduce this transaction time is the reduction in sample transport and analytical testing time. With the mobile waste monitoring laboratory close to the large production / farm area, it can reduce the delivery time by more than 50% and enable faster trade.

The mobile pesticide residue monitoring laboratory will be equipped with sophisticated instruments such as LCMSMS, GCMSMS with the capacity to analyze more than 500 pesticide residues and detect aflatoxins and ochratoxins in raw materials. The lab will focus on key exports of basmati rice, cumin, chili and soybeans to help farmers assess the quality of their exportable products in the shortest time possible.

It will benefit farmers by having services at their doorstep where the mobile lab will be stationed near the Mandi area to help farmers test their crops in the shortest time possible without having to move samples to another city for shipping. In addition, plants can be tested for more than 500 pesticide residues. Thus, the farmer can quickly judge whether he meets the export requirements and obtain a better selling price. It will also give them a broader scope where they can test for other contaminants like aflatoxins and ochratoxins. In addition to the list of advantages, the mobile laboratory offers a faster response time compared to other traditional laboratories.

M. Angamuthu, Chairman of APEDA,said, “Eurofins came up with mobile lab to acutely empower the farmers by reducing the TAT (Turn Around Time) that is consequently aimed at increasing the export capacity of India.”

Therefore, there is immense need for innovative technologies which can FastTrack process in analysing the quality of the agri-produce and enable the traders and exporters to take faster decisions. Against this backdrop, the mobile lab will promote more innovative solutions in maintaining quality of the export products and domestic trade in Agri commodities. Lab will travel across country helping farmers and exporters with reliable, accurate and faster analysis at farm level.
