DS Smith, a leading fiber-based packaging manufacturer, which was acquired by International Paper in 2025, has launched its 100% recyclable and reusable cooler as a sustainable alternative to plastic and Styrofoam coolers. Made from eco-friendly, wax-free corrugated board, DS Smith’s “GoChill Cooler” offers a sustainable way for consumers to keep food and drinks fresh while minimizing waste and lowering carbon emissions.
The moisture-resistant design is ideal for consumers who prefer more sustainable packaging options, particularly when spending time outdoors. Research indicates 63% of consumers who are likely to buy this cooler think it is important to reduce their environmental footprint and 52% are willing to pay extra for a product that is environmentally friendly. The product is also tested to food-grade safety standards and provides the same cooling performance as other coolers without the adverse environmental effects. Since GoChill Cooler applies DS Smith’s GreenCoat® technology, a food-safe, moisture-resistant, recyclable coated box solution, consumers can trust their food and beverages are temperature-controlled, insulated and protected.
“As warmer weather approaches and consumers spend more time outside, our high-performing cooler keeps perishable items cold for every outdoor activity,” said Evans Elliott, Innovation Product Specialist for DS Smith North America Packaging and Paper. “GoChill Cooler provides a household item that is reusable and easily recyclable.”
Demand in the U.S. for eco-friendly alternatives to plastic and Styrofoam continues to increase. A recent consumer packaging survey by DS Smith revealed 1 in 5 consumers will not buy from a company that uses Styrofoam, and other research indicates 77% of would use GoChill Cooler over other disposable coolers.
As part of its Now and Next sustainability strategy, the company is driving the transition to a more circular economy by creating solutions that keep materials in use for longer. This new cooler reinforces DS Smith’s commitment to meeting the increasing demand for products that promote a more sustainable future.
