The supreme food regulator has released an order postponing the period for modification of license by existing FSSAI licensed manufacturers sans modification fee. The order states that the deadline is extended until 30th June, 2021, as a result of a discussion held at FSSAI headquarters regarding this matter.
“It is notified that the timeline for modification of licence by existing FSSAI licensed manufacturers, without any amendment fee is extended till June 30, 2021,” asserts the order, which is pertinent only to manufacturers including re-packers and re-labellers.
In May 2020, the FSSAI had released an order for alteration of the licences due to relocation of the existing Food Licence and Registration System (FLRS) to Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS) and the due date for the modification was set as 31st December, 2020.
As per the FSSAI, in 2019, the food authority had given consent to the proposal related to mapping of standardized food products with food category system for the motive of licensing and registration of manufacturers and eventually comments were invited and analyzed.
Under the FLRS, the manufacturer candidate types the name of the food product to be manufactured in the text box provided whereas in the FoSCoS the manufacturers will have to choose a standardized product only out of the list bestowed on the licensing platform.
An official of the FSSAI notified that standardized products have categorizations in compliance with the food category system and if the product does not come under standardized category, the FBO should submit the apllication under proprietary food, non-specified food or supplements/nutraceuticals segment as the case may be.
FSSAI declares that in case of existing FBOs holding valid licensing for manufacturing of food products, they require to alter their existing licence upon relocating to the novel system FoSCoS. The window period for modification was scheduled till 31st December, which now has been postponed to 30th June, 2021.
