FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry) and FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) have partnered to organize a National Webinar on augmentation of Wheat Flour/Maida Fortification in Food Processing Industry on October 8, 2020, from 3-4.15 pm. Arun Singhal, CEO of FSSAI, will disseminate the keynote address during the e-event.
The goal of the session is to explore the obstacles as well as chances and scopes linked with fortification and work plan for fostering fortification to control malnutrition in the nation.
Fortification is identified as an efficacious and sustainable solution towards enhancing the nutritional status of the citizens across the nation. Offering nutrients without changing the consumption pattern is the prime advantage of the staple food fortification.
Wheat, being a fundamental commodity, is largely consumed by Indians especially in wheat growing areas of north, west and central India. Therefore, to enhance the nutritional condition of mass public, wheat flour is chosen as an appropriate tool for ameliorate the nutritional status. WHO also suggested flour fortification as a preventive food-based approach to boost up the micronutrient status of individuals over time that can be unified with other interventions in the attempts to alleviate vitamin and mineral deficiencies when it can be recognized as public health issues.
With this aim, FICCI is arranging this digital seminar to emphasize the vital role of fortification and the strategies to scale up fortification. According to FICCI, the session would be very beneficial for FBOs who utilize wheat flour/refined wheat flour as an ingredient in their products, wheat flour/refined wheat flour millers, wheat flour / refined wheat manufacturers, as well as senior experts in the field of R&D and quality, nutritionist and development partners.
