Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing (CAMPCO) has been prospecting new heights of business around 2000 Crores in the ongoing financial year as company takes expansion as a major part of its plan.
COVID-19 and imposed lockdown by it, has pestered lots of restrictions on production, supply and movement of products but Nevertheless CAMPCO,a joint venture between the States of Karnataka and Kerala, and also noted that Arecanut is milking good.
CAMPCO President S. R. Satish Chandra stated that a one lakh square feet facility is being built at Kavu in Puttur Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district at a cost of about Rs. 25 crore and it is planned to be opened in February 2021. It would house Arecanut and pepper processing units to start with, followed by cocoa godown at a later stage, among others.
A model kiosk showcasing how cocoa is grown and finally made into chocolates, along with a food joint offering local cuisines, is also proposed there with an aim to promote it as a major tourist attraction, Satish Chandra said.
In the previous financial year, CAMPCO managed to fetch 1848 crores as aggregate. CAMPCO recently entered the e-commerce sector with its exemplary products like ‘Winner’ a sweetened cocoa beverage mix and others. Thus, company targets the newer heights.
Company wishes to reach newer generations and curating products cherished by them. “CAMPCO on wheels’ is going to be launched soon fueled by Arecanut from local farms.It will surface in Puttur (Karnataka) and Kasaragod (Kerala) regions. Responses will be recorded to view whether it should be carried to other parts.
CAMPCO currently operates two exclusive chocolate kiosks at Puttur and Bengaluru. And is considering starting kiosks closer to tourist attractions in Mangaluru, Subramanya, Kodagu, and Mysuru.
New products having natural active ingredients are expected to be launched this calendar year-end.
